The wonderful Warren Public Library story hour is taking a break. There will be no story hour on August 10, August 17, or on August 24. Story hour will resume on August 31. During the story hour break the library continues to welcome parents and children to play with toys, read books and borrow books. Drop in any time the library is open!
The summer reading program is still active, although the weekly programs have ended. Bring in your children to have their cards stamped and to receive their special books to keep.
The library will be open on Labor Day, Monday, September 5th. Drop in and use the computer, borrow a book, audio book or magazine. You can also enjoy our extended summer hours: every Wednesday evening until 8 p.m.
Three more opportunities to buy books at the Farmers’ Market: August 13, September 3 and October 8. I’d like to thank everyone who has donated books to support the Friends of the Library fundraiser. We are continuing to accept donations but please bring them in when the library is open! We welcome paperbacks, hardcovers, audio books and videos. Please, no textbooks, no reference books and absolutely no MOLDY BOOKS! One delightful person dropped off a box when the library was closed. It included a disintegrating, mildewed reference volume…thanks…managing to hit two out of three!
The Warren Public Library web-site continues to evolve. Check out our "helpful links" at http://www.warrenlibrary.com/ for timesaving links to valuable information. There is a section on Senior Services with links to local and national organizations and information, a section of health sites, and many other useful connections. The web-site also has up-to-date lists of our entire audiobook collection, our entire video collection (includes DVDs) and lists of all of the new books for the past year. You can also go through our site to reach the Vermont Automated Library System, where you can do your own searches for interlibrary loan books. This is especially useful if you are interested in books on a particular topic, rather than simply trying to find where you can borrow a title.
Our new DVD collection is growing, bit by bit, but I would love to receive more donations. So far we’ve received: Autism is a World, Conspiracy Theory, I am Sam, Ice House, The Little Princess (Shirley Temple), Mermaids, Painted Lady, Terms of Endearment.
The Friends of the Warren Library mailing included a space to indicate interest in volunteering to help out at the library. Thanks to everyone who responded! I do have two areas where additional volunteers would be wonderful. The library needs one more person to help manage and maintain the paperback collection in the hall. Time commitment is an hour per month, and you get first dibs at the new donations. We also need help distributing our beautiful new postcards. I’d like to encourage visitors to the Valley to stop in and enjoy the library: we need to get the postcards out to B & Bs, tourist attractions and any spot where someone might pick one up. Stop by the library and pick up a handful to distribute: just let us know where you plan to drop them off so we don’t duplicate our efforts. Thanks for all the wonderful support. See you at the library!
