Sports Books

A Necessary Spectacle: Billy Jean King, Bobby Riggs, and the Tennis Match that Leveled the Game by Selena Roberts. New books, 920.

Eagle Blue: A Team, A Tribe, and a High School Basketball Season in Arctic Alaska by Michael D’Orso. New books, 920.

Other resources—plenty of other sports books, look in 920s for sports group biographies (above the regular biographies) and in 796 (with various decimals) for books on particular sports and events.

For more info on the two reads today:

Vermont Online Library

(call 496-3913 for the password, or ask at the library)

Vermont Online Library offers up 100s of choices. I did a simple search on Billie Jean King and found articles of every flavor: academic journal articles, magazine articles, reference book articles and newspaper articles

Search on Alaska and Basketball found just one article!

Competitions and Alaska turned up six, but the one that mentions basketball is the one we already saw.

On the other hand, if I just search on basketball…I find way too many articles.

Basketball and high school gave us 82 magazine articles, just about right.

Web resources: Not an easy search, most of what you find is commercial sites trying to sell real estate, if you search on place names in Alaska. Searches on basketball and Alaska and high school turned up these two, but I had to wade through a number of listings to find them.  a web site with info about who is playing who way, way, up north a girls team up in Alaska
